About Canopy Japan

We started Canopy Japan aiming at advocating of the changing of climate in Japan, beginning with the focus on Okinawa, to help create additional awareness, community resilience and sustainability and develop strategies to prepare for the climate change to the local community and their next generations.

Currently, we deliver insights, offer educational topics through our studios and publications, as well as consultation services in order to help the government agencies, corporations and community develop their long-term sustainability as resilient as possible.

Canopy Japan is located in the Ryukyu Archipelago on Okinawa in Onna-son at the Innovation Core of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST). Our next books will be published from this office including Daniel H. Gottlieb’s new book on climate change, focusing on Japan and its challenges on the globally warmed earth.

Our Mission

  • Provide the best in environmental literature.
  • Employ sustainable systems.
  • Support a low carbon footprint for the species.
  • Maintain a balance.
  • Stay in business.

Our Passion

Our environment will change, it always does.

Too often events fostered by humans are seen as unnatural intrusions--crimes against the environment--needing to be modified for the good of the planet. We at Canopy Japan feel events fostered by humans are integral to the environment--not sins against Gaia. For us, and maybe you as well, looking around and watching the interaction of humanity and climate yields awareness. For some awareness matures through this event called Climate Change.

And while change develops only from the inside, this of course begs the question: “the inside of what, or whom?” it is possible that Jung’s collective unconsciousness is merely a scratch on truth. For our species, the collective misunderstanding of our environment and the magnificent impact we humans, and others, have on this planet is to ignore that sometimes we truly do need to make dramatic mid-course corrections. The changing climate is a danger--it also proves the avenue for great leaps. A vehicle full of speculation and precipices providing insight into the chaotic relationship between life’s essences and the multiple dimensions served by time, as well as time’s master: Scale.

Take your place.

Just don’t turn away from your environment; you are a part of it, not its master. And your environment is more than just the trees and the seas. It is that, as well as the social, economic, and political system in which we humans thrive in as a group we label species. Curse the corruption, the inequities, the ego-centered lust for power--if you must--but ignoring this ecosystem serves no master but the pursuit of ignorance.

No longer a scientific debate but a political and sociological problem."
